Statement by the U15 on the new clerk of the Privy Council

Ottawa, ON (August 20, 2014) – On behalf of The U15 Group of Canadian Research Universities, I’d like to congratulate Janice Charette in her new position as Clerk of the Privy Council. I look forward to working with Ms. Charette to strengthen Canada’s research and innovation ecosystem, and to advance our global scientific and economic standing.  Ms. Charette’s background as Deputy Clerk, and the years she spent at Citizenship and Immigration Canada and at Employment and Social Development Canada (formerly Human Resources and Skills Development Canada), have provided her with an in-depth understanding of the importance of attracting and retaining the best and brightest minds in Canada.  I would also like to thank Wayne Wouters for his dedicated service to Canada as Clerk of the Privy Council, for the many other years he spent in the public service, and for his help in creating the Canada First Research Excellence Fund.
