Statement by the U15 on Cabinet appointments

“The U15 would like to congratulate Finance Minister Joe Oliver and Ed Holder, Minister of State for Science and Technology, on their recent Cabinet appointments. We look forward to working with them on policies and programs that promote excellence in research,” says Dr. Amit Chakma, Chair of the U15.

By working together in support of cutting-edge innovation, the federal government and the post-secondary sector can strengthen Canada’s economic growth and its position as a world leader in numerous scientific research fields, Chakma says.

“U15 universities are proud to develop procedures and discoveries that improve the lives of Canadians, while also assisting Canadian businesses to develop innovations that make Canada more competitive on the global stage,” says Chakma.

U15 universities also thank former Finance Minister Jim Flaherty and Greg Rickford, the previous Minister of State for Science and Technology, for their work and their commitment to engaging our sector.

“My colleagues across the post-secondary education sector recognize and appreciate Minister Flaherty’s personal commitment to supporting research excellence and innovation. We also appreciated working with Minister Rickford in his previous role and look forward to future opportunities to work with him in his new job as Minister of Natural Resources,” Chakma says.
