Statement by U15 on the Cabinet Shuffle

Dr. Amit Chakma, Chair of the U15, released the following statement in response to today’s cabinet shuffle.

“ I would like to congratulate Minister James Moore and Minister Greg Rickford on their recent appointments and welcome them to the Science and Technology file. We look forward to working with them on the continued development and implementation of policies and programs that promotes excellence in research. By supporting cutting edge innovation, and through more partnerships between the federal government and the academic sector, we can maintain and further Canada’s economic edge and establish our position as a world leader in numerous basic and applied fields of scientific research. U15 universities are proud to be at the forefront of developing procedures and discoveries that are helping Canadians live longer, healthier lives and Canadian businesses develop and introduce new technologies and innovations to capture more of the market place.

I would also like to thank Minister Chistian Paradis and Minister Gary Goodyear for their tireless work with our sector. They were steadfast in their commitment to supporting research excellence and were involved partners in working with us to establish world class research and globally competitive researchers here in Canada.”
