Statement — U15 Welcomes Fundamental Science Review

OTTAWA, ON (June 13, 2016) The U15 Group of Canadian Research Universities welcomes Science Minister Kirsty Duncan’s formal announcement today of the Review of Support for Fundamental Science, which will examine the structure and functioning of Canada’s support for scientific research, including the three granting councils along with other federally funded organizations.

“The advisory panel is comprised of key scientific leaders and reflects the breadth and depth of Canada’s world-class scientific research community. The U15 looks forward to engaging with the panel, and notes the presence of a number of current and former U15 leaders, including panel chair Dr. David Naylor,” says U15 Chair Feridun Hamdullahpur, President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Waterloo. “It is an exciting time for Canada’s universities, and we look forward to continuing to work with the government to ensure that our research structure performs to its full potential.”
